Description:

The successful candidate must possess general knowledge of land surveying principles and practices; must be able to perform under the direction of the Project Surveyor and coordinate the activities of the field crew; and performs other duties, including overseeing the effective performance and safety of all members of the field crew, use of equipment, and field safety procedures. In addition, must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with our staff and the general public.

The successful candidate must be able to gather field survey data through the use of both conventional Total Station with data collectors and Global Navigational Satellite System (GNSS) methodologies. The candidate must also set up, adjust, and operate surveying equipment; prepare field notes and sketches; and perform field surveying for roadways, railroads, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying and construction stakes, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, rights-of-way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.

Immediate opening - KSE is looking to hire team leaders for bridge inspection projects in New York City and Upstate New York. Ideal candidate should have the following educational and professional qualifications and experience.

  • Must have a Bachelors Degree in Engineering and a valid NY State Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
  • Must have at least three (3) years of recent experience in bridge inspection, or other bridge related experience acceptable to the NYSDOT
  • Must be physically fit to climb, and work in confined spaces or under adverse weather conditions as required

Vice President - Construction Services (NJ and Pennsylvania)

Description:

The position is responsible for business development and project management within the Construction Division of the firm. Candidate must have at least 15 years of relevant experience, and must possess knowledge, experience, skills, tools and techniques to direct and manage short and long term goals of construction division. The successful candidate shall manage the daily activities of various highways, bridges, railroads facilities projects. Overall responsibilities include the following:

  • Business development with NJDOT, NJ Turnpike, NJ Transit, NJ Counties, PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, Port Authority of NY & NJ, Delaware River Port Authority, Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, and other public and private entities. Develop business relationships with Owner representatives, other firms and business associates to enhance the growth of KSE within the industry.
  • Regularly visit client agencies and obtain strategic information from various sources for pro-active business development. Develop teaming and winning strategies for future projects.
  • Actively pursue projects as prime and sub-consultant.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key industry contacts for recruitment of personnel for future projects. Must possess a very good network of industry contacts to keep track of available resident engineers and inspection personnel when they become available for hire.
  • Spearhead proposal preparation work with in-house marketing department. Must possess excellent analytical and writing skills to review contract documents and prepare technical approach and work plan for specific construction inspection proposals.
  • Possess strong management, supervisory, organizational and technical skills; effective time-management skills; strong computer skills; excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; able to mentor all staff in functional areas of technical construction inspection activities.
  • Assign project managers, resident engineers and construction engineering/inspection staff to perform quality assurance oversight of work in progress and ensure that projects are constructed on time, within budget and in accordance with the contract plans and specifications.
  • Perform the duties of Project Manager on various projects as required.
  • Meet with the Owner on a regular basis to keep them informed of project status, including schedule and budgetary concerns.
  • Address any concerns of the Owner immediately and resolve as soon as possible, including replacing or supplementing project personnel as required.
  • Ensure project personnel possess an understanding of the equipment, materials and methods utilized by contractors required to ensure compliance with the applicable contract plans and specifications.
  • Meet with the Project Manager / Resident Engineer as required to review project schedule and contractor's performance, changed conditions that may affect project budget or schedule, QA/QC management controls, project personnel performance, development of change orders, as-built quantities and associated contractor's monthly payment estimates.
  • Verify KSE invoicing for services rendered to the Owner, or as a subconsultant to another engineering firm, are in accordance with Consultant Contract Agreements and are submitted in accordance with KSE policies and procedures.
  • Negotiate terms of compensation for extra work or services requested by Owner. Do not commence with work or services outside of current Agreement scope and budget without written agreement between the Owner and KSE.
