Job Duties and Requirements:
The job includes the determination, coordination, and management of all of the aspects of a concrete testing environment in compliance with NYC Building Code requirements. The successful Director will identify and fulfill all functional responsibilities of this important leadership role, including management of budgets, equipment, certifications, and personnel in the operation of an AASHTO-accredited and NYCDOB-licensed concrete testing laboratory.
- MUST HAVE prior demonstrated ability in managing a concrete testing laboratory and personnel therein.
- Advanced knowledge and ability to perform and record results of advanced laboratory procedures for aggregates, concrete, and asphalt, along with the supervision of the entire lab team of technicians and field inspectors.
- Identify investments to further optimize and enhance the lab’s capabilities.
- Analyze various lab activities in order to prepare and present action plans to maximize the lab’s effectiveness.
- Implement new testing procedures and keep up with the latest developments for ASTM standards.
- Keep track of required testing and assure that necessary correctness testing reports are prepared in a timely manner.
- Oversee recruiting and training of certified lab technicians and field inspectors.
- Assign and oversee equipment maintenance, calibration, and repairs as required.
- Full responsibility for review, management, and approval of all lab expenses.
- Maintain all records, accreditations, and licenses in the manner dictated by the NYCDOB Code.
- Execute field inspections and sampling in response to lab and personnel workload.
- Be responsible for creating a safe, tidy, and harassment-free team workplace.
- Coordinate and communicate testing results with project managers, stakeholders, and support staff as needed.
- Actively participate in new product development and marketing, including sales presentations.
- Coordinate, schedule, plan, and execute new product implementation.
- Collect and analyze competitors’ activities, and propose product improvements.
- Full responsibility for scheduling daily workload for technicians and field personnel.
- Ensure that daily workload is completed and correctly reported to relevant parties.
- Identify, hire, and manage all technicians and support staff.
Technical Qualifications and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience with field inspection and lab testing of concrete.
- 5+ years of experience, with increasing concrete lab responsibility.
- Significant concrete construction resume and experience in the greater New York City market.
- Licensed NYS Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) with full knowledge of NYC codes.
- Certifications including ACI Concrete Testing Lab Tech Level 1 and Level 2.
- Experience with all applicable construction reporting software.
- Verifiable success with public and private client base.

About the Position:
The ideal candidate must meet some or all of the following requirements:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience inspecting construction work in NYC, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Chapter 17 of the NYC Building Code.
- Currently hold a valid certification in 1 or more of the following:

The ideal candidate will have a BS degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management and prior experience in a responsible role as the lead inspector, resident engineer, or other comparable position on transportation related infrastructure replacement/restoration projects around CT.
This position reports directly to the CT Office Vice President and the successful candidate will figure prominently in the business development, marketing of new CEI projects and accept responsibility as Resident Engineer of CEI projects as well as a leadership role in the overall development and management of a growing CEI group.
