Carroll Gordon is the landscape architect responsible for the landscaping plans and Harry Baker is responsible for the civil drawings and project management of an ongoing project for Rivervue Condominiums in Tuckahoe, NY.
Previous work involved landscaping plans in order to obtain the necessary certificates of occupancy for the building. In addition to parking lot screening plants, Carroll designed a “Live Roof” consisting of mixes of sedums and other hardy plants that would be located on the roof over the parking garage, but which can be seen from the public sidewalk. The “Live Roof” system consists of a series of individual lightweight trays that contain the plants and growing medium, but are hidden from view.
An historic staircase, no longer in use, was transformed into an architectural/landscape artifact embellishing the front of the building. Built into the building is a planter box finished to match the building. Free standing planter boxes are located on surrounding integral shelves and on the stairs. A mixture of permanent and annual shrubs and flowers were designed for the boxes.
Carroll testified at the Planning Board hearings, presenting the various design schemes that were approved and ultimately led to the issuance of the certificate of occupancy for the building.
Currently,
KS Engineers (KSE) is producing the plans for a new surface parking lot of 33 spaces. Carroll is producing the planting plan and site lighting plan for the parking lot and a “Cherry Tree River Walk” along the portion of the site adjacent to the Bronx River. These plans will be before the Planning Board shortly.
