  • PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Carroll Gordon was the Project Manager and Landscape Architect for the renovation of Hitchcock Field, which is next to Hasbrouck Heights High School.  In 2003, this field was a hard dirt natural grass soccer field that had been overused to the point of exhaustion.  This project transformed the field into a new multi-purpose artificial infill turf facility to be enjoyed by the school and community.

Overlaid on one field is a soccer field, softball field, team sports and gym facility.  The artificial infill is a combination of sand and rubber and sits within a natural grass area adjacent to a natural grass and clay infield baseball field.  The baseball field was also renovated in this project, along with storm water drainage improvements.

The field was designed and installed in under four months and cost under $400,000.  Now, the field is ready for use immediately after rain, and irrigation is not necessary.  Maintenance costs are reduced and the artificial infill fields are a much safer surface for athletes. In addition, games do not have to be cancelled because of wet field conditions.
