  • PROJECT DESCRIPTION

    W. Carroll Gordon is responsible for the design of two parks that will be impacted by the widening of the Gowanus-Prospect Expressways, one at the actual intersection, and one that is a land swap. The park at the actual intersection will be completely reconstructed. All plantings will be removed, since the area will be severely impacted by construction. An extensive planting of new shade and flowering trees will fill the challenging site, which has areas of dense shade and high alkaline soil. The stone walls and picket fencing will also be refurbished. Areas of granite block paving will be increased and the existing areas cleaned and repaired.

Included in the design are new medians and plantings along 3rd. Avenue, with extensive use of salt tolerant shrubs, ground covers and street trees.
