Kamal Shahid, P.E.,
President
Kamal Shahid, P.E. is the founder of KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE) who established the firm in 1991 in New York City. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, KSE has established itself among the Top 500 Engineering Firms (as ranked by Engineering News-Record) and as a leading service provider of engineering, survey and construction management services in the region.
Mr. Shahid holds a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey and is a licensed professional engineer in NY and NJ. He has been nominated twice by the American Society of Civil Engineers (North Jersey Branch and Section) as “Engineer of the Year”. He is an active member of various industry associations including the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) in NY and NJ, where he serves on several committees. Prior to founding this firm, Mr. Shahid served as a project manager with NJ Transit Corporation where he was responsible for inspection and maintenance of Agency’s bridges statewide. He also served as Project Manager for PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corporation) and the Quality Assurance Division of the Port Authority of NY & NJ. He managed various inspection, rehabilitation and capital improvement projects for the Authority’s bridges, tunnels and PATH facilities. Mr. Shahid also directed the Tunnel Liner Bolt Replacement program for PATH tunnels under the Hudson River.
As President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Shahid is responsible for corporate quality assurance, overall client satisfaction, marketing, new business development and financial management of the firm. He also provides the corporate leadership and vision for strategic growth of the firm.
Diego Alaimo, P.E., Vice President, Branch Manager and Director of Construction Services - NY City
Mr. Alaimo is a licensed professional engineer in the states of NY, NJ, PA, CT and FL. He has over 35 years of diversified experience in design and construction management of transportation and wastewater projects. He has progressed from engineer, project engineer, project manager, regional manager to Senior Vice President/Acting President. He has managed complex engineering projects throughout the Northeast from proposal, to design and construction. These projects have ranged in size from $1M to $85M. Mr. Alaimo possesses through knowledge of the construction industry in New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Mr. Alaimo is responsible for all construction services for KSE in New York and also serves as the branch manager for our New York City Office.
Harry Baker, Vice President – Traffic & Transportation Engineering
Mr. Baker brings more than 35 years of experience as a civil/traffic engineer to KSE. His diverse experience includes the preparation of traffic impact, parking and pedestrian studies, master planning, feasibility studies, roadway, intersection and traffic signal design, site development, and parking lot/garage design. As an active member in the Institute of Transportation Engineering and the National Parking Association, he served on the Board of Governors of the Government and Institutional Branch of the National Parking Association. Mr. Baker’s experience leading traffic transportation and parking design projects for major public and private agencies throughout the Tri-State area makes him a valuable asset to KSE and our clients. Mr. Baker manages the growth of KSE’s traffic and parking sectors.
George Broberg, P.E., P.P., Vice President & Director of Operations
Licensed as a Professional Engineer in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania and as a Professional Planner in New Jersey, Mr. Broberg has more than 40 years of experience managing infrastructure and facilities projects for governmental agencies and private sector clients. Over the course of his career, he has been responsible for managing large-scale, multi-million dollar projects that have changed the face of New Jersey. Mr. Broberg is a recognized expert in improving corporate systems and is instrumental in our ability to maintain the quality of our corporate operations. As we continue our steady growth in the tri-state area, he will serve as the executive in charge of reviewing each technical department with a focus on identifying and refining KSE's approach to staffing, production and overall performance.
Robert H. Busek, P.E., LEED® AP, Vice President Structural/Buildings
Mr. Busek is licensed as a Professional Engineer in nine states and brings more than 35 years of experience to KSE. He has provided structural design for a wide variety of projects including vehicular bridges, and railroad infrastructure encompassing passenger facilities, fixed and movable bridges and buildings. His experience with building facilities includes field inspection, condition survey, structural design, demolition design and construction/demolition inspection for clients including the Newark Public Schools, the NJ School Construction Corporation, the Philadelphia School Improvement Team and numerous other public and private clients. Mr. Busek is currently directing the company’s effort in design/build for PennDOT and the DRJTB commission and the firm’s design and construction management project for infrastructure development in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. In 2006 his design project “Rehabilitation of Grant Avenue Bridge” for NJ TRANSIT won award of engineering excellence from both ACEC NY and ACEC NJ. Mr. Busek is recognized for his work on the $350 million replacement design project on the Charter Oak Bridge in Connecticut and for the award-winning University Heights Swing Bridge in the Bronx, New York.
G. Bruce Connor, P.E., Vice President - Business Development & Corporate Operations
Mr. Connor is a licensed professional engineer and brings more than 40 years of experience to KSE. Prior to joining KSE, he served as an engineer for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, Union and Middlesex Counties and has been a Regional Manager and Vice President at engineering firms that work in the United States and abroad. While at the NJ Turnpike Authority, Mr. Connor served as the Authority’s liaison officer for unique Environmental Mitigation Programs through which various mitigation sites were developed by contractors on behalf of the Authority and then to turned over to a third party in 5 years. Mr. Connor also served as the Project Manager for the Permitting Phase of the Garden State Parkway Widening to a third lane between Interchanges 30 and 80. He also has extensive experience with Mass Transportation and Rail projects, having worked on both the Baltimore and Pittsburgh Subway systems. Early in his career, Mr. Connor was responsible for enhancing the operations for the Long Island Railroad into Penn Station New York.
Eileen R. Della Volle, Vice President - Private, Federal & Education Sector Business Development
Ms. Della Volle has more than 20 years of marketing and business development. She works directly with State, local, and private agencies, developing relationships with community and business leaders. Ms. Della Volle is responsible for expanding KSE’s presence in the private, federal and education sectors. She maintains a high level network with business leaders, government officials, non-profit agencies and trade organizations in New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. Ms. Della Volle has a distinguished history of volunteer activities and board service for Ocean County Community College, Southern NJ Development Council, United Way and City Without Walls. NJBiz Magazine recognized Eileen with their prestigious “40 Under 40 Award” and she also received the Odyssey International Productions “Award of Excellence” in recognition of her commitment to maximizing contracting opportunities for minority and woman owned businesses.
Joseph E. Ferrara , P.E., Vice President - Rail Transit
Licensed as a Professional Engineer in New York, Mr. Joseph Ferrara has more than 40 years of experience in engineering and construction management. He held several senior level positions, serving as the Chief Engineer responsible for a $2.6 billion capital program at the Long Island Rail Road, and as Vice President for Rail Transit at both EarthTech and CH2M HILL. Mr. Ferrara has negotiated over $1 billion in third party contracts, both in the USA and abroad. Highlights of his achievements include restructuring organizations, improving operations and strengthening client satisfaction. Mr. Ferrara completed executive education programs at Harvard University, Stanford University and the Wharton School of Business, has been a Fellow in the ASCE for 30 years and is an active member of both the NYSPE and AREMA. The NYSPE honored him with a PE Manager of the Year award and the ASCE honored him with an Engineer of the Year award. James Henry Vice President & Deputy Director of Construction Services
With more than 29 years of experience in the fields of heavy highway, bridge and building construction, inspection, construction management, project management and contract administration, Mr. Henry will lead the growth of our Construction Services division in Southern New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He has served as a New Jersey Turnpike Authority Project Liaison Engineer where he was responsible for the management of many projects including: Interchange 1 Relocation, sound barrier projects, guardrail and signage improvement projects, drainage improvement projects and building construction projects, including the beginning phases of the New Troop E Holmdel State Police Barracks on the Garden State Parkway.
Eugene W. Little,
Vice President – Transportation Business Development
Mr. Little has over 40 years of experience in marketing and business development of engineering, design, construction management and inspection services to public and private industry. He is responsible for continuing to expand KSE’s presence in the transportation sector, specifically in the areas of highways, bridges, tunnels, rail/transit, facilities/buildings and aviation, and has worked extensively with all levels of government including Federal, State, County and Local agencies and authorities in the Northeast. He has developed extensive corporate marketing programs and strategic plans throughout North America and has a significant resume of accomplishments in client relations, teaming, strategic programs and business growth for numerous markets and industry sectors including transportation/infrastructure, commercial construction, aviation and power generation. Mr. Little’s extensive knowledge of the transportation sector and his relationships and contacts in the Northeast corridor make him an invaluable and influential member of the executive management team of KSE.
Robert Nash, P.E., P.T.O.E., C.M.E., LEED® Green Associate, Vice President – Civil Engineer
Licensed as a Professional Engineer, Mr. Nash has more than 30 years of experience in the design of roadways, site improvements for public and commercial building structures, subdivisions, parks, and park and rides. This work includes new road construction, major renovation of existing roadways, design of grading and drainage, roadway/site illumination, and soil erosion and sediment control measures. He has managed design projects for both public and private entities including NYCDOT, NJDOT, NYSDOT, NJ Turnpike, Kean University, SUNY College of Optometry, New Jersey School Construction Corporation, Hovnanian Enterprises, Kramer Development Corporation, and Toll Brothers. Mr. Nash has extensive experience in the geometric and civil design of various types of highways, roadways and bridges and has managed numerous transportation facilities reconstruction projects. Mr. Nash held the positions of Director of Transportation and Senior Highway and Traffic Engineer for private consultants, was a public Transportation Engineer for municipalities in New York State, and served as a Traffic Engineer for the City of Yonkers.
Dickson Opong, P.E., Vice President, Department Head, Bridge Design
Mr. Opong is licensed as a Professional Engineer in both New Jersey and New York and brings more than 30 years of experience to KSE. He has served as a Project Manager and Unit Manager responsible for the planning, preliminary and final design of bridges and highways throughout the Tri-State region. Mr. Opong has worked on essential infrastructure projects for the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and other public agencies. Mr. Opong has provided significant technical and managerial expertise on many multi-discipline projects involving bridge design and inspection utilizing AASHTO design specifications and NIH bridge inspection manuals; scour evaluation of highway bridges using HEC-18, HEC-20, HY-9 and HEC-RAS; feasibility assessment, final scope development and design of highway drainage projects; and Context Sensitive Design and preparation of contract documents.
Jacob Perlmutter, P.E., Vice President - Structural Evaluation
Licensed as a Professional Engineer, Mr. Perlmutter has more than 25 years of experience in managing NBIS and biennial inspection of bridges, condition inspection of buildings and other infrastructure facilities in the tri-state area. He has successfully performed project management, project engineering, bridge replacement and rehabilitation design. He has been involved with light rail structural design, construction supervision, and the inspection of bridges, buildings, airports, and marine facilities. His extensive experience includes project for NJTA, NJ TRANSIT, NYSDOT, DRBA, DRPA and PANYNJ. Mr. Perlmutter has also provided resident engineering services for numerous bridge and highway construction projects throughout the region for several public entities.
Robert Ryan, P.L.S., P.P., Vice President - Surveying Services
Mr. Ryan is an award-winning Professional Land Surveyor licensed in both New Jersey and New York, with additional licensure as a Professional Planner in New Jersey. He has more than 40 years of extensive experience in the field and brings a wealth of knowledge in the overall management of both large and small land surveying projects. Mr. Ryan has experience in organizing, scheduling, supervising, and managing the staffing resources and equipment required to complete all surveying and mapping operations. This work has included, but not limited to, title, topographic, GPS control, right-of-way and riparian surveys. Mr. Ryan has supervised survey work for large-scale residential and industrial developments from acquisition of land to construction stake-out and preparation of final surveys for conveyance. This survey work has been for both private and public clients for a wide range of parcels including large-tract single- and multi-family housing; Superfund sites and other environmentally-sensitive projects; and right-of-way for utility companies throughout Union, Middlesex, Hudson and Essex counties. In addition, he has experience supervising large OSHA operations for survey field crews involved in topographic surveys, remediation surveys and monitoring well surveys. Furthermore, Mr. Ryan’s professional expertise includes providing oral presentations and testimony in defense of his survey findings before a large number of municipal planning boards across the State of New Jersey and on projects for such major private and public entities as the NJSCC, NJTA, NJ TRANSIT, NYCT, NYSDOT, PANYNJ, Harms Construction and Toll Brothers.
Michael Seigfried, Sr., Vice President & Director of Construction Services, NJ
Mr. Seigfried has over 40 years of experience in roadway, bridge and rail transit construction projects including the management of the construction of roadway and structures for the completion of Interstate 287 from Route 80 to the New York State border (approx 20 miles) for the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and Construction Management duties for the Re-Electrification of the Morris and Erie Rail lines and New York and Long Branch Electrification from South Amboy to Matawan of NJ TRANSIT. Prior to joining KSE, he served as the Director of Construction Services for NJDOT where he received the Employee of the Year Award in 1986 and 1989. Mr. Seigfried also has extensive experience with managing construction projects for NJ Turnpike Authority, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, Delaware River Port Authority and various counties in New Jersey. He is responsible for managing all construction service activities for KSE in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Stuart Schrager, P.E., Vice President
Mr. Schrager brings more than 35 years of diversified experience in managing large infrastructure development projects in New York City for municipal water supply and sewer system design and construction. He served as the Director of Infrastructure Construction for Manhattan for the New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC). At NYCDDC, he managed many high profile projects such as the reconstruction of Malcolm X Boulevard 145th Street to 110th Street; Reconstruction of a major intersection in Chinatown; construction of new water mains on Wall Street and Canal Street; and reconstruction of Sixth Avenue from 56th to 59th Streets. Prior to NYCDDC, Mr. Schrager also served for New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) as Borough Chief Engineer for the Borough of Bronx. Mr. Schrager is a licensed professional engineer in the State of New York.
Joseph Zarriello, P.E., Vice President & Manager of Mt. Laurel, NJ Office
Mr. Zarriello has more than 31 years of experience in transportation engineering. He has served as a bridge engineer, highway engineer, project manager, and office manager for transportation and industrial clients. Mr. Zarriello has led numerous design projects on behalf of the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), New Jersey Turnpike Authority and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PENNDOT). His structural design and inspection experience includes management of multiple bridge replacement/rehabilitation and NBIS bridge inspection projects.
