KS Engineers, P.C. (KSE)was prime consultant for a new southbound Route 9 Bridge over the Raritan River and associated approach roadways. The Route 9 structure required construction of a new 1,340-m-long multiple span southbound bridge, construction of new river piers (including construction of coffer dams) driving of cast-in-place concrete pipe piles, approach roadways, placement of both precast- concrete beams and steel girders, concrete deck, concrete parapets, bridge railing, variable message signs, pavement markings and southern and northern diversionary roads to allow for the bidirectional use of the new structure during the rehabilitation of the existing Route 9 (Edison Bridge, under a separate contract). Foundation operations included construction of dams and pile driving for piers. Superstructures included structural steel and post-tensioned concrete stringers. Piers were cast with HP concrete and form liners. KSE’s scope included the following:
